President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a budget of $24 billion will be provided within the scope of STEEL DOME.
Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN : As Turkey, we have taken our measures to raise the ratio of our defense expenditures to the 3.5 percent level before the year 2030. Undoubtedly, our country’s true success lies in the breakthroughs in the defense industry. We have entered the ranks of the world’s top 10 countries in terms of production and export capacity. We have allocated an additional budget of $24 billion with our STEEL DOME project for air and missile defense capabilities, which are the most acutely felt deficiency in our Alliance.
STEEL DOME is a new generation network-centric air defense system aimed at protecting Turkish airspace with a multi-layered and integrated architecture.
Bringing together different platforms and sensors under a single command-and-control infrastructure, the system performs its duties with a “system of systems” approach.
STEEL DOME creates a joint air defense umbrella by integrating KORKUT, HİSAR-A+, HİSAR-O+, and SİPER elements, which operate in air defense layers ranging from very low altitude to high altitude, with radar networks, electro-optical sensors, and command and control centers.
Thanks to artificial intelligence-supported decision support mechanisms, all elements can perform real-time data sharing.
Working fully integrated with search and fire control radars featuring AESA technology, STEEL DOME can automatically determine the most appropriate interceptor element against different types of threats in line with the network-centric operation concept.
The system evaluates threats against targets such as UAVs, cruise missiles, fighter jets, and ballistic missiles, activating the appropriate air defense system and effectively managing the layered defense architecture…
