Latvia announced that it has signed a contract with Slovakia and Tatra Defence Systems to procure Morana 155 mm howitzers and rocket artillery systems…
The announcement did not disclose how many howitzers and rocket launchers will be procured under the contract, which rocket artillery system will be purchased, the contract value, or the delivery schedule.
The new howitzer and rocket artillery systems are intended to expand the indirect fire capability of the Latvian Armed Forces.
Both systems are planned to be built on a common Tatra chassis, and the use of a shared platform is expected to simplify long-term sustainment.
Latvia plans to finance the procurement of the Morana 155 mm howitzer and artillery rockets under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.
Integrated on a Tatra Force 8×8 chassis, the Morana howitzer system is armed with a 155 mm/52-caliber gun.
Using extended-range ammunition, it can reach a range of approximately 41.5 km, and its automatic loading system enables a firing rate of 6 rounds in the first minute, followed by 5 rounds per minute…
