Denmark Purchases Additional Naval Strike Missiles (NSM)

Denmark has ordered additional Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) from Kongsberg under a contract worth approximately NOK 400 million…

The contract expands the 2025 procurement and aims to strengthen Denmark’s coastal defence capability.

The missiles are being procured under a government-to-government agreement between Denmark and Norway, with Norway’s Defence Materiel Agency (FMA) negotiating the contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for Denmark.

Neither Kongsberg nor the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) has disclosed the number of missiles covered by the contract.

Developed by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) is a high-subsonic cruise missile with a range exceeding 185 kilometres.

It uses an inertial navigation system, GPS-aided guidance and a laser altimeter, while its high-resolution imaging infrared (IIR) seeker and Autonomous Target Recognition (ATR) technology enable it to identify and classify targets during the terminal phase of flight.

The NSM can engage both surface vessels, including frigates and destroyers, and land targets such as port facilities, command-and-control centres, radar installations and air defence positions…
