Egypt has requested the purchase of up to 2,020 FGM-148F Javelin missiles and up to 200 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLU). The missile quantity includes 20 test missiles to be considered as part of the purchase.
The principal contractors are Lockheed Martin and RTX, and no known offset agreement has been proposed in connection with this sale. Any offset agreement would be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor.
Javelin is a medium-range, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system with a range of approximately 2.5 to 4 km.
The missile uses an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker and can strike its target using either a top-attack or a direct-attack profile.
The FGM-148F employs a multipurpose warhead that combines a tandem warhead with a fragmenting steel casing, providing greater effect against exposed personnel and lightly armored vehicles in addition to armored targets…
