Greece will significantly expand its existing anti-UAV systems, which are currently deployed primarily on the Eastern Aegean islands (the Saruhan Islands).
As part of this expansion, there are plans to install advanced anti-UAV systems at critical infrastructure sites in the interior regions of the islands.
Under the program, it is planned to operate advanced radar systems, command-and-control infrastructure, and air defense elements assigned to different altitude layers as an integrated network.
The agreement is expected to encompass not only platform procurement but also long-term logistical support, maintenance and sustainment activities, and a degree of Greek participation.
Achilles Shield is planned as a multi-layered air and missile defense architecture and is being built upon Israeli systems.
At the lower altitude and short-range level, the SPYDER AIO will provide point and area air defense against fighter jets, helicopters, cruise missiles, UAVs/UCAVs, and precision-guided munitions.
In the middle layer, the Barak MX will operate against aircraft, cruise missiles, and various aerial threats with its different range options.
In the upper layer, the David’s Sling system will be responsible for the interception of ballistic missiles, long-range rockets, cruise missiles, and advanced aerial threats.
