Lockheed Martin to Increase THAAD Production to 400 Units!

Lockheed Martin has announced plans to increase annual production of THAAD interceptor missiles from 96 to 400 units as part of a seven-year, $35 billion U.S. procurement agreement…

This production increase is supported by the creation of new manufacturing capacity, the modernization of existing facilities, and a broader $9 billion program dedicated to munitions production through 2030.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) awarded Lockheed Martin a seven-year, $35 billion undefinitized contract action.

The agreement provides for an increase of more than fourfold in the annual production capacity of THAAD interceptors over the seven-year period.

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) is a high-altitude air and missile defense system designed to counter short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats, with capabilities for both endo-atmospheric and exo-atmospheric interception.

The system destroys targets using “hit-to-kill” technology and is specifically optimized to engage ballistic missiles during their terminal phase.
