Rheinmetall to Integrate Silvus Sensors into Skynex

Rheinmetall Air Defence has announced an agreement with Silvus Technologies to integrate passive radio-frequency (RF) sensors into its ground-based air defense systems…

The integration will add a new threat detection layer to the Skynex air defense system and the Skymaster command-and-control platform.

The technology will complement existing radar coverage and enable the detection of aerial threats without actively transmitting signals.

RFeye sensors can detect and locate aerial platforms by monitoring the electromagnetic spectrum.

The integration is intended to enhance the existing radar capabilities of Skynex and Skymaster, provide a more comprehensive air picture, and enable threat detection without revealing the systems’ own locations.

Developed by Rheinmetall, Skynex is a modular, network-based short-range air defense system designed primarily to counter unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and other low-altitude aerial threats.

The system’s primary weapon is the 35 mm Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 automatic cannon, which uses programmable AHEAD ammunition.

The 35 mm Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 automatic cannon has a rate of fire of 1,000 rounds per minute and can engage aerial targets at ranges of up to 4 km and altitudes of up to 3,500 meters…
