Romania Signs Contract for 12 Airbus H225M Helicopters

Romania has announced that it has signed a contract for 12 Airbus H225M helicopters…

The contract was signed with France’s Defence Procurement Agency, DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement), under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) mechanism.

The Romanian Air Force currently operates IAR-330 Puma helicopters, produced under license from Aérospatiale.

The 12 H225Ms will begin the gradual replacement of the Puma fleet for conventional and special operations missions.

Powered by two Safran Makila 2A1 turboshaft engines, the Airbus H225M is a multi-role helicopter with a maximum takeoff weight of 11 tonnes.

With standard fuel tanks, the H225M has a range of 920 kilometers, which can be extended to 1,253 kilometers with auxiliary fuel tanks.

Depending on the mission configuration, the helicopter can be equipped with electro-optical/infrared sensors, radar, and electronic warfare and self-protection systems…
