The Borei class consists of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines developed for the Russian Navy.
The submarines measure 170 meters in length, 13.5 meters in beam, and have a submerged displacement of 24,000 tons.
Powered by an OK-650V nuclear reactor and a 50,000-shaft-horsepower steam turbine, the submarines utilize pump-jet propulsion to reach submerged speeds of up to 29 knots and operate at a test depth of 400 meters.
Borei-class submarines are armed with 16 RSM-56 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles, each capable of carrying multiple independently targetable nuclear warheads.
The submarines are also equipped with 533 mm torpedo tubes, RPK-2 Vyuga missiles for engaging submarines and surface vessels, and an anti-torpedo defense system.
