The U.S. Navy announced that it has signed a contract worth more than $20 billion with Boeing for the development and production of the F/A-XX, a next-generation, carrier-based, sixth-generation fighter aircraft…
Beginning in the 2030s, the F/A-XX is planned to replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler and to operate alongside the F-35C.
The aircraft is also envisioned to work with, and control, the U.S. Navy’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) unmanned aerial vehicles.
The platform is expected to feature advanced stealth, long range, advanced mission systems, and network-centric warfare capabilities.
Being developed by Boeing, the F/A-XX is expected to feature a tailless design that will provide the Navy’s carrier air wings with advanced long-range stealth capability.
Through its open mission systems architecture and advanced mission systems, the F/A-XX is being designed to achieve greater operational reach than the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
