MBDA has announced that the SPEAR miniature cruise missile has transitioned from development into production…
The SPEAR miniature cruise missile is a compact, networked weapon system designed to enable aircraft to conduct precision strikes while remaining outside the engagement range of hostile air defense systems.
The program has entered Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP), with the first operational missiles scheduled for delivery in 2027.
SPEAR was developed to allow air platforms to strike targets from a safe distance, maintaining a standoff capability against enemy air defenses.
Powered by a turbojet engine, the missile has a range of more than 100 kilometers. Its compact design also allows aircraft to carry a larger number of weapons.
The combination of its compact dimensions and effective warhead enables multiple targets to be engaged during a single sortie.
The missile features a dual-mode seeker combining a millimeter-wave active radar seeker with a laser seeker…
