Awarded by OCCAR, the contract covers the EMIDS-2 program, which will develop the F-EMIDS (European Multifunctional Information Distribution System) terminal for combat aircraft.
The new terminal will replace current Link 16-based systems used on Eurofighter, Rafale, and Tornado IDS/ECR aircraft, as well as the Airbus A400M transport aircraft and French E-3F airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.
F-EMIDS will provide seamless, real-time tactical data exchange while introducing new communications capabilities to meet future operational requirements.
The EuroMIDS consortium comprises Germany-based Hensoldt Sensors, Spain-based Indra Group, Italy-based Leonardo, and France-based Thales SIX GTS France.
Built on a software-defined radio architecture, the terminal will allow for the integration of new frequencies, waveforms, and communication standards via software updates, eliminating the need for hardware modifications.
