India Launches $9B Program To Procure 60 Transport Aircraft!

The Indian Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program aims to replace the existing An-32 fleet and expand the nation’s medium-lift air transport capabilities.

The Indian Air Force requires aircraft capable of carrying 18 to 30 tons of payload, with the ability to operate from short, unprepared runways and advanced landing grounds (ALG).

Under the current plan, 12 of the 60 aircraft will be procured as complete aircraft, while the remaining 48 will be assembled in India through cooperation between local companies and foreign manufacturers.

Potential platforms for the program include the Embraer C-390 Millennium, Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules, and Airbus A400M Atlas…
