Japan will begin the modernization process for Type 03 air defense systems in 2027, with the aim of providing them with ballistic missile interception capability.
The modernization program is planned to be based on the existing Type 03 Kai variant.
As part of the program, software upgrades will be carried out to enable the missile to be guided against ballistic targets.
The modernized Type 03 air defense systems are targeted for delivery to the Japanese Army in 2030.
