The Spanish Navy and Navantia have announced plans to develop the F110 IAMD air and missile defense frigate based on the F110 class…
The programme aims to improve the capabilities of the existing F110 “Bonifaz” class and expand it to meet future operational needs.
Development is based on the ongoing F110 programme and future requirements outlined in the Spanish Navy’s Armada 2050 document.
The F110 IAMD (Integrated Air and Missile Defense) configuration is intended to significantly enhance air and missile defense capabilities while retaining the class’s multi-role capabilities, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW) and its digital architecture.
Frigates will feature the next-generation SCOMBA NG combat management system, integrating sensors, weapon systems, uncrewed vehicles and other onboard systems within a common digital architecture.
F110 IAMD will feature increased vertical launch system (VLS) capacity, enabling area air defense missions.
The frigates are also expected to retain electronic warfare capabilities and the ability to counter asymmetric threats, alongside existing ASW and ASuW capabilities.
F110 IAMD is planned to complement five F110 frigates currently under construction. Final design decisions are expected to be made jointly by the Spanish Navy, Ministry of Defense and Navantia based on operational requirements…
