Brazil has announced that it has signed an initial serial production contract with Leonardo, through the CIO Consortium (IDV – OTO Melara), for the procurement of 7 Centauro II 8×8 armored combat vehicles under the VBC Cav – MSR 8×8 program…
Under the contract, 7 Centauro II 8×8 armored combat vehicles equipped with a 120 mm main gun will be delivered.
The procurement represents the first phase of serial production under the overall program for 98 vehicles.
The Centauro II is an armored combat vehicle developed to meet the requirements of modern operational environments, featuring a fully digitized and interoperable architecture.
Equipped with the HITFACT MkII turret, a modern 720 HP powerpack and an H-drive transmission, the Centauro II combines the firepower of a modern main battle tank with the high strategic mobility of a wheeled platform.
The Centauro II BR provides thermal and night-vision capabilities through its advanced electro-optical systems, delivering a high level of situational awareness during target detection and engagement operations.
The platform is also capable of exchanging data with unmanned aerial vehicles via the Brazilian Army’s PROTEUS system.
