Under the Achilles Shield programme, a multilayered air-defense capability will be established against ballistic missiles, other aerial threats and hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
The agreement includes the procurement of the David’s Sling, Barak MX and Spyder air-defense systems, MMR multi-mission radars developed by ELTA Systems, and a national command-and-control system to be developed by Rafael.
These systems will integrate different sensors and interceptors into a single integrated national air-defense network.
ELTA Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, will deliver MMR multi-mission radars for airspace surveillance.
David’s Sling is a medium-tier air and missile defense system designed to counter short-range ballistic missiles, large-calibre rockets, cruise missiles and other aerial threats.
The system consists of the ELM-2084 MMR multi-mission radar, the Golden Almond command-and-control centre and vertically launched Stunner interceptors.
