Poland is considering selling the 20 M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems it recently received…
Poland is considering selling its existing HIMARS systems to acquire additional K239 Chunmoo (Homar-K) systems developed by South Korea, although no final decision has been made and the sale remains merely a possible option.
Homar-K is Poland’s version of the South Korean-developed K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system, mounted on a Jelcz 8×8 chassis instead of the Doosan chassis.
It can fire a range of munitions, including the 239 mm CGR-080 guided rocket, which reaches 80 kilometers, and the CTM-290 short-range ballistic missile, which reaches 290 kilometers.
Both use GPS-aided navigation, with an accuracy of about 15 meters for the CGR-080 and about 2 meters for the CTM-290.
Homar-K can also fire the unguided 122 mm rockets used by systems such as the WR-40 Langusta and BM-21 Grad.
The M142 HIMARS, developed by Lockheed Martin, is a highly mobile multiple launch rocket system. Each launcher carries either 6 GMLRS guided rockets or 1 ATACMS tactical ballistic missile.
GMLRS has a range of about 70 to 80 kilometers, while ATACMS can engage targets up to 300 kilometers away…
