The company intends to raise production capacity from its current rate of approximately 15 aircraft per year.
The production increase is intended to support ongoing and planned Gripen programs for Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Thailand, Hungary and Ukraine.
To support the higher production rate, Saab is expanding capacity at its main production line in Linköping and at Embraer’s facilities in Brazil.
Beyond an initial contract for 16 aircraft, Ukraine is planning for the long-term acquisition of 100 to 150 Gripen fighters.
The JAS 39 Gripen is a single-engine, multi-role fighter developed by Saab for air-to-air, air-to-ground, and reconnaissance missions, featuring a digital fly-by-wire flight control system.
Powered by a Volvo Aero RM12 turbofan engine, the aircraft can reach a maximum speed of approximately 2,470 km/h.
