General Atomics Awarded Contract for Common Hypersonic Glide Body

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) has announced that it will manufacture critical components for the Common Hypersonic Glide Body (CHGB) under a multiyear subcontract with Leidos…

Under the agreement, GA-EMS will produce precision-machined metal parts and cable assemblies through 2031.

The manufacturing program will support a joint U.S. Army and Navy effort to develop and procure hypersonic weapons.

Under the program led by Leidos, the CHGB and Thermal Protection System programs have been combined to streamline development and accelerate the delivery of hypersonic capabilities.

The CHGB is the hypersonic glide vehicle that separates from its booster after the rocket motor accelerates it to hypersonic speeds. It then glides through the atmosphere toward its target while retaining the ability to maneuver.

Designed to travel at speeds of Mach 5 or greater, the glide body incorporates a thermal protection system to withstand extreme temperatures, along with guidance and control components…
