Canada Signs Deal with TKMS to Build 12 New Submarines!

Canada has announced that it has reached an agreement with Germany-based TKMS as part of the construction of 12 new submarines to be procured for the Royal Canadian Navy…

TKMS has offered the Type-212CD class submarine platform to the Royal Canadian Navy as part of the program.

Following the signing of the contract, the goal is for TKMS to deliver 4 Type 212CD submarines to the Royal Canadian Navy by 2036.

Under the program, Canada will procure 12 Type-212CD submarines to replace the Victoria class.

The 212CD-class submarine stands out with its diamond-shaped hull design aimed at reducing radar cross-section, its 73-meter length, and its specialized non-magnetic steel construction that minimizes its magnetic signature.

The platform has a displacement of approximately 2,500 tons surfaced and 2,800 tons submerged, with a length of 73 meters and a width of 10 meters.

The hull design has been optimized to reduce detectability by modern active sonar systems.

The propulsion system is equipped with 2 MTU 4000 diesel generators, lithium-ion batteries, and a fourth-generation PEM fuel cell air-independent propulsion (AIP) system.

The ORCCA combat management system used on the submarine allows for the use of heavy-weight torpedoes via 6 533 mm torpedo tubes, while also enabling the integration of missile systems, torpedo countermeasure ammunition, and unmanned underwater vehicles…
