Raytheon announced that 8 StormBreaker smart munitions were simultaneously fired from an F-35B fighter aircraft…
Under the Ripple Eight program, the capability enabling a single aircraft to engage multiple targets simultaneously during the same mission was validated.
StormBreaker is a winged, compact precision-guided munition developed for use against fixed and moving targets in all weather conditions.
StormBreaker features a tri-mode seeker that combines millimeter-wave radar, imaging infrared (IIR), and semi-active laser guidance.
The millimeter-wave radar provides target detection and tracking in adverse weather conditions, the IIR system performs target discrimination, and the semi-active laser mode tracks target designation provided by aircraft or ground elements.
Against moving targets, StormBreaker can reach a range of more than 45 miles (72 kilometers), reducing the amount of time the platform spends in the threat area…
