Kongsberg signed the contract with the Netherlands’ armed forces procurement authority, which is acquiring NASAMS on behalf of Belgium, while the end user of the systems will be the Belgian Air Force.
A short- and medium-range, network-centric, ground-based air defense system, NASAMS offers multi-engagement capability against a wide range of threats.
It consists of the AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel 3B X-band radar, electro-optical/infrared sensors, a Fire Distribution Center, and missile launchers.
NASAMS can employ the AIM-120 AMRAAM, AMRAAM-ER, and AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles, allowing different munitions to be used within the same system architecture.
