Germany to Equip MEKO A-200 Frigates with Sea Giraffe 1X and Sea Giraffe 4A!

The order is valued at approximately 8.7 billion Swedish kronor, with deliveries scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2032.

The MEKO A-200 DEU class frigates will be built by TKMS at its shipyards in Germany.

Under the order, the frigates will be equipped with composite superstructures, 9LV combat systems—including fire control systems and combat management systems—the Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face long-range surveillance radar, the Sea Giraffe 1X lightweight multi-mission surveillance radar, and various passive sensors.

The Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face is a long-range, multi-functional naval surveillance radar featuring a fixed-panel AESA architecture operating in the S-band, capable of automatically and simultaneously detecting and tracking air and surface targets.

Providing a very high target update rate thanks to its fixed antenna arrays, the Sea Giraffe 4A includes a dedicated operating mode for the detection and tracking of hypersonic targets.
