Under this service life extension program, Rheinmetall will comprehensively modernize the critical systems of the F123-class frigate Bayern by 2029.
The work includes upgrades to the vessel’s combat management system, radars, main machinery and propulsion units, and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities.
The Bayern is the third of four Brandenburg-class F123 frigates and entered service in 1996.
Built by Thyssen Nordseewerke, the 138.8-meter frigate was designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare missions.
